A defined chin and jawline can enhance overall facial balance. If you’re concerned about a double chin or excess fat beneath your chin, Kybella® in Brookline at Dream Spa Medical offers a non-surgical option for reducing submental fat and improving jawline definition.
Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable containing deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance that helps break down dietary fat. When injected beneath the chin, Kybella destroys targeted fat cells, which the body gradually processes and eliminates.
What Can Kybella® Treat?
Kybella is designed to improve the appearance of moderate to severe submental fullness, commonly known as a double chin. Treatment can help reduce excess fat beneath the chin, improve submental fullness, and create a more defined-looking chin, jawline, and lower facial profile.

How Does Kybella® Work?
Your Kybella treatment in Brookline begins with a personalized consultation. Your provider will evaluate your chin and neck area, discuss your aesthetic goals, and determine whether Kybella is appropriate for you.
During treatment, Kybella is injected into targeted areas beneath the chin. The deoxycholic acid destroys the targeted fat cells, which are then naturally metabolized and eliminated by the body. Because this process occurs gradually, results develop over time, and multiple treatments may be recommended depending on your individual needs.
What to Expect From Kybella® Treatment
Kybella is a non-surgical injectable treatment with little traditional downtime. Temporary swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, numbness, or firmness may occur after treatment. Your provider will discuss potential side effects and provide personalized aftercare instructions.

Look Better & Feel Better Today
Let our team help you on your aesthetic journey!
Kybella is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin. Also known as submental fat, this is what commonly leads to the so-called “double chin.”
Kybella is made from a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, which is a bile acid naturally produced by your body to help absorb fat. Once injected, Kybella destroys fat cells beneath the chin area so they can’t store fat anymore, and your body’s lymphatic system flushes the leftovers away.
As the only FDA-approved treatment of its kind, Kybella is an especially popular way to address submental fat without any kind of surgery or what many patients refer to as “social downtime” (slight swelling that will fade over the course of a few weeks).
Double chins are technically known as “submental fullness,” a gathering of excess fat beneath the chin. A double chin can be something you’ve had your whole life due to several possible reasons, including:
- Genetics
- Effects of aging
- Weight gain
Whatever the reason may be, Kybella in Brookline can dissolve submental fat, helping to permanently remove the fat and strengthen the presence of your chin and jawline.
The number of treatments depends on your aesthetic goals. After your consultation with a Dream Spa Medical provider, we’ll have talked about your goals and your concerns, and we’ll have examined your treatment area(s). After this assessment, if Kybella in Brookline looks like the best answer, we’ll schedule your treatments and join you on your aesthetic journey.
Most patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 Kybella treatments, spaced about a month apart.
Most Kybella treatment sessions only take 15 to 30 minutes, making this double chin-erasing procedure a “lunch break” treatment. Some patients see their results after a single session, while others may require as many as 4 to create their ideal results, with minimal downtime once complete. Your results will be naturalistic and subtle, creating your ideal profile and granting you the contours that truly bring out your natural sense of facial harmony.
Pre- and Post-Care Instructions for Kybella in Brookline
- Women who are pregnant or nursing should not be treated with Kybella.
- We suggest that if you are actively trying to conceive that you consult your physician before being treated with Kybella.
- Please allow a minimum of 2 weeks’ time in between any vaccinations and your treatment.
- It is best to avoid alcohol & blood-thinning medications (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.) 24 to 48 hours prior to your treatment. This may increase your risk of bruising.
- You may opt to take an over-the-counter antihistamine (Allegra, Zyrtec, Claritin) for 2 days leading up to your appointment. This may help to reduce your swelling post-treatment.
- If you are prone to and being treated in an area that may cause a Herpes Labialis outbreak, we suggest pretreating with an antiviral medication for 2 days prior to your treatment and 2 days post-treatment. Dream Spa Medical is happy to provide you with a prescription, assuming that you are a candidate for this prescription.
- Bruising and swelling can be expected post-treatment. We suggest taking Arnica tablets for 5 to 7 days prior to your treatment to help reduce both effects.
- We always suggest hydrating as much as possible prior to any treatment at Dream Spa Medical. It is a great way to help your body function at its best and help to accelerate your healing time as well as enhance results.
- You may consider having at least a snack or a small meal within an hour of your appointment. Getting injected with needles can at times cause you to feel “queasy” or unwell. It always helps to have a little something in your stomach to combat those feelings. We keep juice and snack bars on hand in case you need a little pick-me-up mid-treatment!
- The treatment area will feel sensitive and tender to the touch. This will resolve over the course of 2 weeks.
- The treatment can produce a significant amount of swelling, typically peaking within the first 5 days following your procedure and gradually decreasing over the course of 2 weeks. You may apply ice intermittently on and off for 30 seconds for a 5- to 15-minute time period to the treatment area to help reduce the swelling. This can be done for 2 to 5 days post-treatment. In cases where swelling is very uncomfortable, we suggest gently wrapping an ACE bandage around your head and submental area to gently apply compression and improve discomfort.
- Avoid heavy lifting, strenuous activity, and sweating for 24 to 48 hours.
- Visible injection marks are normal and to be expected in most cases. This usually subsides within 24 hours.
- Treated areas should be cared for gently when washing your face or applying products. It is best to not touch or manipulate the treated area.
- Do not scratch or pick at the injection sites, this may cause infection.
- We suggest waiting a full 2 weeks before any additional treatments, such as facials, peels, laser treatments, etc.
- Optimum results are achieved in 2 to 4 sessions based on your individual needs. Treatments are scheduled 4 to 6 weeks apart.
- Kybella is a wonderful non-surgical option to treat submental fullness and jowling; however, results take consistency and patience.
- Optimal facial contouring with Kybella is typically achieved as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. Your provider will help guide you through this process.
