Restore Fuller, Healthier-Looking Hair With PRP
If you’re experiencing thinning hair or hair loss, PRP hair restoration in Brookline offers a non-surgical approach to supporting healthier-looking hair growth. At Dream Spa Medical, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) made from your own blood is injected into targeted areas of the scalp to support hair follicle health and may improve hair thickness and density. PRP may also be used for targeted eyebrow and beard hair restoration.
How PRP Hair Restoration Works
PRP hair restoration begins with a small blood draw. The blood is processed to concentrate platelets and naturally occurring growth factors. The resulting platelet-rich plasma is then carefully injected into areas of the scalp where hair thinning is present. Over time, the treatment may support the natural hair growth cycle and improve the appearance of hair density.

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a plasma substance derived from your blood that is rich in components called platelets. PRP has growth factors that regenerate the cells, regrow skin tissues, improve skin texture, and can even be used to stimulate hair follicle function.
PRP naturally stimulates cell growth and tissue regeneration. PRP has been used for decades in the medical field to regenerate cells and tissues. PRP regenerates skin cells and smooths, tightens, and enhances the appearance. When applied to the scalp, it stimulates the hair follicles and helps to regrow thicker, healthier hair.
Almost anyone who wants a natural, minimally invasive solution for hair loss is a candidate for PRP. Because we derive the PRP from your own blood, there is a very low risk of reaction.
Ideal candidates for PRP treatments meet the following requirements:
- Are generally in good health.
- Do not smoke.
- Have not had recent steroid treatments.
- Are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Have no active skin infections or rashes in the treatment area.
- Are not fully bald but are in the early stages of hair loss.
- Have thin or thinning hair.
- Are experiencing male or female pattern hair loss.
The recovery from PRP Hair Restoration requires very minimal downtime. Some mild redness of the treated area(s) is occasionally seen 4 to 6 hours after the treatment. This is normal and will resolve in 48 hours.
3 treatments are recommended spaced 4 weeks apart, and annual maintenance once per year after your last treatment will help re-stimulate growth and maintain results.
New hair growth can be seen as early as 2 weeks (if using home care products in conjunction with treatment), but is typically evident between 5 to 8 months and will continue to improve up to a year after treatment.
Home care products can greatly boost your results after your treatment. We have 3 months of professional Viviscal shampoo, conditioner. and supplements included in the package.
Pre- and Post-Care Instructions for PRP Hair Restoration in Brookline
- Women who are pregnant or nursing should not be treated with PRP/PRF injections.
- We suggest that if you are actively trying to conceive, you consult your physician before being treated with PRP/PRF injections.
- Please allow a minimum of 2 weeks’ time in between any vaccinations and your treatment.
- It is best to avoid alcohol & blood-thinning medications (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.) for 24 to 48 hours prior to your treatment. This may increase your risk of bruising.
- Bruising is always a risk with this procedure. For this reason, we recommend taking Arnica tablets for 5 days leading up to your procedure.
- If you are prone to and being treated in an area that may experience a Herpes Labialis outbreak, we suggest pretreating with an antiviral medication for 2 days prior to your treatment and 2 days post-procedure. Dream Spa Medical is happy to provide you with a prescription, assuming that you are a candidate for this prescription.
- We always suggest hydrating as much as possible prior to any treatment at Dream Spa Medical. It is a great way to help your body function at its best and help to accelerate your healing time as well as enhance results.
- For this treatment we strongly encourage increasing your hydration by 30% to 50% as well as increasing intake of green leafy vegetables, such as celery juice, as it drastically improves the quality of the growth factor content that we are able to extract from your blood.
- You may consider having at least a snack or a small meal within an hour of your appointment. Getting injected with needles and/or having your blood taken can, at times, cause you to feel “queasy” or unwell. It always helps to have a little something in your stomach to combat those feelings. We keep juice and snack bars on hand in case you need a little pick-me-up mid-treatment!
- The treated area will feel sensitive and tender to the touch. This should resolve within 24 to 48 hours.
- Bruising and swelling can be expected and will subside within 3 to 7 days. Most of the swelling is actually the fluid or plasma portion of the product being absorbed by your body as the platelet portion of the product creates the growth-stimulating matrix. It is important not to apply pressure to this area for at least a week after your treatment, as any pressure could disrupt the matrix and impede results. You may gently apply Arnica for bruising.
- Avoid NSAIDs and aspirin for approximately 2 weeks after your treatment. NSAIDs increase the risk of bruising and interfere with the collagen-stimulating process.
- Avoid heavy lifting, strenuous activity, and excessive sweating for 24 to 48 hours.
- Visible injection marks are normal and to be expected in most cases. This usually subsides within 24 hours. You may apply makeup after this timeframe.
- Treated areas should be cared for gently when washing your face or applying products. It is best not to touch or manipulate the treated area.
- Do not scratch or pick at the injection sites, as this may cause infection.
- We suggest waiting a minimum of 1 week before any additional treatments, such as facials, peels, laser treatments, etc.
- Try to sleep on your back with your head elevated for 1 to 2 nights.
PRP/PRF injectable treatments are highly effective treatments that utilize your body’s own natural growth factors to rejuvenate areas of concern.
These treatments are most effective when combined with collagen induction therapy and done as part of a series.
